Yoga for a balanced life

My name is Cheryl Bell. I am a Certified Yoga Teacher and Ayurvedic Wellness Coach. I believe Yoga is a fundamental doorway to our personal best and the balanced life we seek...

History and Background

I can best be described as a Yoga Health Coach... I hold certifications as an American Council on Exercise personal trainer, Yoga Alliance ERYT200 (experienced registered yoga teacher), and a certified Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor (the sister science of yoga.) I love helping my students find their best stability and symmetry both on and off the mat. I also possess a strong knowledge of nutrition and lifestyle modalities and weave them into my teaching to encourage students to integrate acceptance and self-assurance to find their own personal best, balanced life.

Philosophy

Cultivating mindfulness in our daily lives allows us to show up and be our authentic self. Setting aside judgments about the past and expectations of the future can make us feel vulnerable, yet this is where we begin to sense the fullness of a life lived in the present moment.

Method

My method of teaching centers around setting an intention and then exploring how we use the body and the breath. We all come to yoga for different reasons and when we anchor our practice with an intention it allows us to develop a deeply personal experience. As we let this practice unfold moment by moment we begin to let go and feel our true nature and discover ways that yoga touches our lives both on and off the mat.

Yoga and The Voice

I have loved singing since I was a child...

Some of my favorite memories are of long family car trips where my dad and I sang throughout the night as my mom and brother slept in the backseat. He taught me all different kinds of songs and I loved singing with him. The sweet innocence of those times faded during my early school years. I was "that girl" who was told my voice was 'too loud."  My teachers often told me that my “voice carries” and I was encouraged to be more quiet. Now I’m not the quiet type so these early experiences made me rebellious in ways both good and bad.

I have always continued to sing but I never really developed as a singer until I began the practice of yoga. Yoga and Ayurveda teaches that when we learn to accept our true nature, love, we can begin to allow ourselves to be seen in ways we never imagined. This has brought me to a place where I am currently developing my style as a Jazz singer and enjoying my voice as a gift to be nurtured.

I look forward to each new discovery...
